Why: Colorado now ranks 50th in the nation in Higher Ed funding and we're bracing for even larger cuts. Ever wonder why tuition has risen 9% every year you have been here? Ever wonder why fewer class sections and courses are being offered at CSU? Funding for Colorado colleges and universities has been sliced in half over the past two years.

On November 18, 2009 the staff of the Colorado Joint Budget committee presented their staff briefing for higher education.

Included in the issues they discussed was privatizing a university in Colorado. Their scenario concluded that tuition would have to raise 45% over the next two years to make up for the loss of funds.

Another issue they discussed was closing down a college in Colorado. This scenario concluded that 1 in 3 of the students who attend a closed college would not be able to afford to go to school somewhere else.
