Academics
The Department of Academics focuses on the academic aspects of student life. They traditionally sit on Faculty Concil's University Curriculum Committee and the Committee on Teaching and Learning to represent students on issues affecting grading, treatment in classes, and course requirements. They also work to make textbooks more affordable for students and find other ways to improve academic quality at CSU. Because the Department requires so much contact with the University administration, they are well positioned to connect resources across the university when such efforts are appropriate. This role has occasioned college council round-tables and other focus groups with students, faculty, and staff.

Community Development
The Community Development Department oversees two primary areas of leadership development. The first is through the Ram Leadership Team program. The Ram Leadership Team is made up of a group of first-year students who have a strong desire to develop and improve their leadership skills and style. Another part of the Ram Leadership Team is to assist in the successful transition of the first-year students. To help with this, each Ram Leader is assigned a peer mentor from ASCSU. The Ram Leaders will also be exposed to the inner-workings os ASCSU and the university system. The second area of leadership development that this Department oversees is that of the student government as a whole. ASCSU Senators, Justices, and Cabinet members all are welcome and highly encouraged to participate in the activities and programs put on by the Leadership Development office to expand their own leadership capabilities.
